The tapered roller bearing uses two rings with conical shaped rollers to achieve high axial and radial carrying capacities. The higher carrying capacities are achieved by inner and outer ring raceways with a segmented cone shape. Along with the tapered shape of the rollers the conical shapes of the components produce a common point on the bearings axis. The design of tapered roller bearings produce a large contact surface between the rollers and the raceway in turn giving the ability to carry large axial and radial loads.
